Australian wine is shaped by one of the world’s most diverse wine landscapes, stretching across a vast continent with a wide range of climates, winemaking communities, and styles.
Alongside its well-established expressions, Australian wine today continues to evolve through new grape varieties, contemporary approaches, and an ongoing spirit of exploration.
This October, part of that diversity will come to Vietnam through Australian Wine Showcase 2026: Taste Beyond, taking place in Ho Chi Minh City on 7 October and Hanoi on 9 October.
Organised by Wine Australia and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, the programme is designed for wine trade professionals and media in Vietnam, with a dedicated Masterclass and Taste Beyond Showcase in each city.

Taste Beyond: Going Beyond Familiar Styles
Taste Beyond offers an opportunity to explore the diversity of Australia’s wine regions and winemaking communities, while meeting the people behind the wines presented at the event.
From long-established styles to newer grape varieties and contemporary winemaking approaches, the showcase presents different facets of Australian wine today.
The current line-up features 22 producers from regions including Clare Valley, Grampians, Langhorne Creek, Riverina, Heathcote, Barossa Valley, Limestone Coast, Yarra Valley, Murray Darling, and McLaren Vale.
Attendees can also learn more about each winery, the wines they produce, and the markets in which they are seeking distribution opportunities.
Ho Chi Minh City: When Australian Wine Meets Vietnamese Cuisine
In Ho Chi Minh City, the story begins at the dining table.
The Masterclass “Beyond the Palate: Discovering Australian Wine through Vietnamese Cuisine” focuses on how the diversity of Australian wine can complement the freshness, balance, and layered flavours of Vietnamese cuisine.
During the tasting, each Vietnamese dish will be paired with two different Australian wines, offering different ways to explore the interaction between food and wine.
The Masterclass will be led by Kati Vainionpää, Education Development Manager – Asia Pacific at Wine Australia, together with Lê Hoàng Khánh Vi, Wine Educator, MSc, CS, and Vice-President of the Vietnam Sommelier Association.
Following the Masterclass, the Taste Beyond Showcase will continue from 14:30 to 18:30, giving attendees the opportunity to discover the wineries and wines featured at the event.
Hanoi: Looking Back at More Than 200 Years of Australian Winemaking
While Ho Chi Minh City begins with the story of food pairing, the Hanoi Masterclass takes attendees back through history.
With more than 200 years of winemaking, Australia is home to old vines, multigenerational wine families, and a deep body of knowledge built over time.
The Masterclass “History, Evolution and Revolution of Australian Wine” will explore the vineyards, grape varieties, and styles that have helped shape the history of Australian wine, while also looking at the contemporary styles continuing to influence its premium wine sector today.
Through a guided tasting, the programme will also explore how Australian wine can fit within Vietnam’s dining culture across different menus, occasions, and shared dining experiences.
The Masterclass will be led by Kati Vainionpää together with Tram Tran, Consultant, Wine Education WSET and Sommelier at Tran Thi Dung Tram, Vietnam.
Two Cities, Two Ways to Explore Australian Wine
While both Masterclasses are part of Australian Wine Showcase 2026, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi offer two different ways into the world of Australian wine.
One places Australian wine alongside Vietnamese cuisine to explore food and wine pairing. The other looks back at the vineyards, grape varieties, and styles that have shaped Australian wine over more than two centuries.
The Taste Beyond Showcase then brings both perspectives into one space, where attendees can directly explore the regions, producers, and styles that reflect the diversity of Australian wine today.
